The Secret to Attracting Your Ideal Clients: Going Back to the Basics

The Where - Be Where Your Clients Are

One of the most common mistakes business owners make is trying to be everywhere at once. While your ideal clients might be on various platforms like LinkedIn, Instagram, and Facebook, it's crucial to identify where they spend the most time and focus your efforts there.

Determine the Right Platform:

  • LinkedIn

is geared toward B2B networking and connections.

  • Instagram

is often used for entertainment and scrolling.

  • Facebook

still thrives with groups and community engagement.

Choosing the right platform is just the beginning. The next part of the equation is being strategic about how you engage on these platforms. Tailor your approach to fit the unique characteristics of each. For instance, what works on Instagram might not be as effective on LinkedIn.

Get Insights: Engage with your current clients to find out which platforms they use most. Analyze your metrics to see where your highest engagement and traffic are coming from. This will tell you where your efforts are paying off and where to double down.

The What - Understand Their Challenges and Desires

This is the heart of your messaging. People want to feel understood, and the best way to do that is to know their daily challenges and desires. A powerful method for gaining this understanding is to walk through a day in the life of your ideal client.

Exercise at Hand: Imagine their day from the moment they wake up:

  • What are they thinking?

  • What are their worries and desires?

When you deeply understand what they are going through, you can create content and messaging that resonates with them on a personal level. They should feel like you are in their head and genuinely understand their struggles and needs.

Leverage Metrics for Better Understanding: Dive into how your content is performing. Look at email open rates and post engagement to see what topics are resonating. Use polls and direct conversations to further fine-tune your understanding of their challenges and desires.

The How - Position Yourself as the Solution

With the knowledge of where your clients are and what they need, the final piece is to articulate how your solution uniquely solves their problems. You must clearly communicate the distinct value that you offer.

Articulate Your Value: Avoid simply listing your services. Instead, highlight the outcomes and benefits your clients can expect. Use your sales data to pinpoint what features or selling points consistently drive results—these are your sweet spots.

Stand Out in a Noisy World: The marketplace is crowded, so identifying and communicating what makes you different is essential. By doing so, you’re not just another option; you become the best option. When you align your messaging with what your data is telling you, your ideal clients will not only be interested but eager to work with you.

Conclusion

To wrap it up, here are the three foundational steps to attract your ideal clients:

  1. Show up where your ideal clients are.

  2. Speak directly to their challenges and desires in your messaging.

  3. Position your solution as the obvious choice by clearly communicating its value.

These steps may seem basic, but their power lies in their simplicity. By leveraging your data and focusing on these three areas, you will attract the right people—those who are ready and excited to work with you.

Amy [00:00:02]:

What if attracting your ideal clients didn't have to be nearly as complicated as you're making it out to be? Today, we are going back to the basics and discussing three simple steps to help you connect with the right people and really position your solution as the obvious choice. And before you're thinking, well, wait a minute, this has to be super complicated. It doesn't. These three basic things we're going to discuss are the where, the what, and the how. So if you've been wondering how to bring in more of the clients that actually want to work with you without working even harder, then make sure you listen to this episode because we are diving in. So up first, the where be where your clients are. Here's the thing, if you're not showing up where your ideal clients already hang out, you're really making it harder for them to find you. Now, I know this can ensue some head drama where you're like, but they're Everywhere.

Amy [00:01:14]:

They're on LinkedIn, they're on Instagram, they're on Facebook. Okay, sure, they may be all of those places, but where is the one place that they spend the most time? Because think of these different platforms, they all have different ways of reaching people. So LinkedIn is more of a networking B2B platform where you're connecting with others. That is the goal of LinkedIn. Instagram People tend to go there to scroll, to be entertained. Facebook people are still using Facebook groups. But all of these work. Just figuring out which one will work best for you and your ideal client.

Amy [00:01:59]:

That's step one. But I don't want you to stop there and go, okay, it's Instagram. It's not just about being on the platform, it's really about being strategic with how you're on the platform. How are you showing up, how are you engaging with your audience and how are you providing value? Because if you're on Instagram, you're going to need a different approach than you would take if you're over on LinkedIn. And if you have no idea where to start, please know that this is okay. Start talking to people, start engaging with people and asking them, even your current clients, hey, what platforms are you on? And sometimes it's not even a social media platform. If you're a local service provider, maybe it's getting into the circles where, hey, I need to get into some of these vendor markets. I need to get my products and services donated to local fundraisers where they're a higher ticket event.

Amy [00:03:06]:

Be strategic. If you're already on a certain platform, look at your numbers, look and see what posts are getting the most engagement, which platform is driving the most traffic to your website. How are people finding you? Because when you take the time to look at these insights, they will tell you exactly where your efforts are paying off and where your ideal clients are spending their time. Because you don't have to be spread so thin trying to be everywhere. Double down on the platforms that are converting, that are driving those aligned leads your way. So that's number one being where your clients are positioning yourself in front of them strategically. So that's the where. Next up is the what understanding what are their challenges and desires.

Amy [00:04:10]:

And I think there's a lot of misconceptions when it comes to this because this is the heart of your messaging. But what happens is we, we stay very surface level, but we want to speak to them, we want to understand what they're going through even more than they do. So that when they are reading your messaging, when they're interacting with you, they feel like, oh my gosh, she is in my head and understands exactly what I am going through. And a really powerful way to do this is by doing a simple exercise. I can't remember who originally came up with this exercise, but it's simply walking through a day in the life. So I want you to put yourself in your ideal client's shoes and walk through their day from the minute they wake up, what are they thinking, what are they worried about, what are they really wanting? Really understanding exactly what they're going through allows you to speak to exactly what they're struggling with and meet them where they are. And when you know these things, you can weave them into your messaging because now you're using their language and you're letting them know that you understand exactly where they're coming from. Because now they can see themselves in your content.

Amy [00:05:40]:

And remember, content is not just social media. This can be when you're having a conversation with someone at a networking event about what you do. This allows them, when you're writing an email and they're reading it, to be like, oh my gosh, she is describing me. This develops that instant connection. Now, an easy way to leverage your metrics with this is to look at how your content performed, go into your emails and see what got the most opens. What are people really resonating with? Take the time to ask, to do that market research, to really again leverage those polls and ask yourself, hey, do you resonate more with this or that? Get to know them. Track what trends you are seeing. Are Your clients expressing similar frustrations.

Amy [00:06:42]:

Use that in your messaging, because when your audience feels so seen and so understood, they're far more likely to engage with you. So take the time to have conversations, pull them, really listen to them, and then reflect that in your content and in your communication. And the third thing, in order to simply attract your ideal clients, knowing the how. How are you strategically positioning yourself as the solution to the problem they have? Because now that you know exactly where they are, what they're struggling with, and what they want, we need to position your solution as the obvious choice. And this is where a lot of people again, stay stuck. It's not enough anymore to simply list what you do. You really need to be able to articulate the value of what you provide and why you're the best option. Because this world is noisy.

Amy [00:07:50]:

How do you stand out? What makes you different? Because I guarantee there is something that does. It just takes a little bit of time and effort to unpack it. And again, this is where metrics can help you. Because look at your sales data. What's working? Which offers convert the best? Where are those spots, those phrases, those selling points that consistently drive results? That's your sweet spot. That's where I want you to find focus. Use this information to continue to refine the messaging, highlighting those outcomes that your clients can expect. Because when you position yourself strategically and align your message with what your data is telling you, your ideal clients won't just be interested, they will be so ready to say yes.

Amy [00:08:48]:

Because we're not trying to convince people to buy, we're clearly articulating how your solution solves their problem better than anything else out there. Be confident, be specific, and speak to those desires, those challenges and desires that make you the perfect fit for for their needs. So let's go ahead and recap. In order to attract your ideal clients, the three things that you need to do are show up where your ideal clients already are, speak directly to what their challenges and desires are in your messaging, and how you position your solution as the obvious choice by clearly communicating the value. This does not have to feel like guesswork. Your metrics are here to guide you every single step of the way. And leveraging that data, taking the time to look at it and leverage it, your data is the key to making smarter, more confident decisions and attract more clients. These three steps aren't complicated.

Amy [00:10:14]:

These are so basic, yet sometimes we overcomplicate everything and forget about their basics. That's why these are so powerful. But when you do focus on these three areas, you will attract the right people, the ones who are ready and excited to work with you.
